I Draw Slow @ Old Dara Cinema

February 24, 2017 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

€20

Dublin International music award nominated roots band "I Draw Slow" return to Naas this winter, following on from their triumphant 2016 gigs and the roaring success of their last 2 live performances here. This time they take the stage in the ambient Old Dara Cinema all in aid of a great cause: The Naas Food Bank.

I Draw Slow is a five-piece outfit comprising vocals, guitar, fiddle, banjo and double bass. Holden siblings Dave (guitar) and Louise (vocals) have been writing together for two decades. In 2008 the pair teamed up with Violinist Adrian Hart, Claw hammer banjo player Colin Derham, Double bassist Konrad Liddy to form I Draw Slow

The Sound: Alt-country, folk, roots, old-time, Americana The five have cre...ated a new sound, rooted in the old time style of the Appalachian Mountains, drawing on Irish traditional music and modern Americana. However, this is a whole new songbook of stories and melodies. These are dark tales of debauchery and trouble swinging from the kind of well-crafted melodies that survive.

This live concert will all be in aid of a very worthy cause in our community:

The Food Bank on Main St
‘Helping to feed the hidden hungry’

Main Street Foodbank is an initiative started in December 2012 Since then, with fantastic support from the local community, their drop-in centre has been operating every week, where currently (July 2016) an average of 93 individuals and families access the service for help.
In Ireland, food poverty has emerged as an increasingly important issue; recent findings by the Department of Social Protection disclosed 10% of the population in Ireland are living in food poverty.

Facts about food poverty in Ireland:
1 in 4 of the population live in deprivation
1 in 7 of those at risk of poverty has a job
750,000 people live very close to the breadline
Today people across Ireland struggle to feed themselves and their families. Redundancy, illness, benefit delay, domestic violence, debt, family breakdown and paying for the additional household costs are just some of the reasons why people go hungry.

Naas Foodbank helps to feed these ‘hidden hungry’ in our community because nobody should have to go without food on their tables.

Please join us to experience the widely adored I Draw Slow Live in the beautiful, iconic and ambient Old Dara Cinema.
