Light & Fire Walk - Saturday, 4th February

Light and Fire Walk Brigid 1500

Light & Fire Walk in Kildare Town, starting at 6pm from The Main Square in Kildare Town and lasting approximately one hour.  This powerful and emotive walk is a public event for all to enjoy.  Please arrive early and dress for the weather.  A traffic management system and road closures will be in place.

As part of Brigid 1500, Kildare County Council is sending cross-pollinating apple trees to participating schools across the county to plant on the eve of St Brigid’s Day on Tuesday, 31st January. Please contact brigid1500@kildarecoco.ie if your school wishes to get involved.

Throughout the first week of February, the public can view the reimagined Brigid pages from the lost Book of Kildare at Solas Bhríde. The artwork has been created by local Artist and Calligrapher Josephine Hardiman.  No booking necessary. Solas Bhríde is open from Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 5pm and by appointment on Saturdays.

Candlelight Pilgrimage - Tuesday, 31st January 7.20pm

Candlelight Pilgrimage from The Irish National Stud Carpark at 7.20pm (no pre-booking required).  This magical walk starts at The Irish National Stud, located outside of Kildare Town and makes it way past St. Brigid’s Wayside Well where there will be a short ritual, continuing mindfully and concluding with a closing ritual at St. Brigid’s Garden Well.  The walk will conclude at approximately 9pm. Walkers are advised to dress for the weather and bring a torch or lantern to accompany them on the pilgrimage.

GAA 6th Class Blitz – Wednesday, 1st February 2023 

Brigid 1500 has teamed up with the GAA to create this special one-day blitz for 6th class pupils across Kildare.

Cross Weaving Workshop - Wednesday, 1st February 

A cross weaving workshop takes place at 10am at Solas Bhríde in Kildare Town.  Learn the craft of weaving a St Brigid’s Cross from the experts.  This workshop lasts approximately 1 and a half hours and is bookable at www.solasbhride.ie.

Brigid 1500 Pause for Peace - Wednesday, 1st February 12 midday

Brigid 1500 Pause for Peace across the world at 12 midday, starting in Australia and rolling around the globe. 

St. Brigid of Kildare and the abbesses who succeeded her were renowned as peacemakers in early Ireland. We invite you to join with us in a Pause for Peace wherever you are.

Customs and Traditions Associated with St Brigid - Wednesday, 1st February

Customs and Traditions Associated with St Brigid takes place at Solas Bhríde from 2.30pm to 4.30pm. 

Gleaning wisdom from old customs and traditions to live more fully and sustainably while turning toward a future of greater well-being for ourselves and Planet Earth. This event takes the audience through some of the customs and traditions, where you will discover the spirit of St Brigid and her relationship with our ancestors through story, music, poetry, and creative activity.

This event runs from 2.30pm – 4.30pm at Solas Bhríde in Kildare Town and costs €15 pp.  Book your ticket now at www.solasbhride.ie.

Féile Bríde Art Exhibition - THE BOOK OF KILDARE by Josephine Hardiman.

From Tuesday 24th January to end February 2023.

The Book of Kildare is a project which began in 2016, with local artist and calligrapher, Josephine Hardiman recreating the Book of Kildare using her own interpretation and artistic talents. New and current pages will be on display in the library. It will be completed and published to celebrate Brigid 1500 in 2024.

Vital Signs: Poems of Illness and Healing


Kildare Town Library, Friday 3rd February 7pm

A Lecture and Poetry Reading by Martin Dyar with music and song by Treasa Harkin and Mairéad Carroll.

Martin Dyar grew up in Swinford, County Mayo. His first book of poems Maiden Names (Arlen House) was a books of the year selection in the Guardian and the Irish Times, and was shortlisted for the Pigott Poetry Prize. He has been the winner of the Patrick Kavanagh Poetry Award and the Strokestown International Poetry Award. With the composer Ryan Molloy, he has written a poetry song cycle, for soprano, harp and flute, titled Buaine na Gaoithe, which had an Irish national tour in 2018. He has held creative writing fellowships at the University of Iowa, the Washington Ireland Programme, and at the University of Limerick. He is the editor of the new anthology Vital Signs: Poems of Illness and Healing, published by Poetry Ireland. His next book of poems, The Meek, is forthcoming from Wake Forest University Press. He teaches in the School of Medicine at Trinity College Dublin.

The Story of Samhain - The Riverbank Arts Centre Newbridge

VISUAL ART: A Way Home – An Slí Abhaile

Riverbank Arts Centre welcomes a new exhibition for children, showcasing the breadth of talent in contemporary Irish illustration, while retelling the story of Samhain (Halloween) for a new generation.

Two siblings get lost in the woods. There they meet a mysterious traveller and embark on an adventure that sees them encountering a cheeky púca, some lost souls, and a choir of banshees… This is a story of Halloween as told by children’s writer Olivia Hope.

A Way Home / An Sli Abhaile is brought to life through the collaboration of 20 artists and illustrators. Together they have created 46 artworks which will be displayed in our Children’s Gallery.

Haloween Spooktacular at the Irish National Stud

Looking for the perfect day out? There are plenty of fun activities taking place at the Irish National Stud & Gardens, Co Kildare, over Halloween. From Saturday the 29th to Wednesday 2nd enjoy a fun-filled experience for all the family.

The Greenfields Festival is a new 3 day music festival taking place the October Bank Holiday weekend in Athy Co Kildare. Its a very unique line up with 3 different genres of music each day. Following the successful Summer Junior and Teen Camps 2022, Redhills are delighted as promised to bring you a unique and action packed Redhills Adventure Halloween Camp 2022.

They are running a 3 day Junior and Teen camp during the October mid-term. The camps are packed full of activities from Splatmaster to Airsoft Combat Games, learning new skills  to being active in the outdoors! Safety and fun is our number one priority. The Gordon Bennett annual classic car run is back in Kildare town on Sunday 5th between 2.30pm- 4.00pm an array of Gordon Bennett Classic cars will make a ‘stopover’ on the square for about a 90min.

It takes you on an historic journey across spectacular Irish countryside.

Why not join us in the beautiful Irish Midlands to help commemorate "The Race that Saved Motor Sport", it is a free event enjoyed by all who attend , suitable for all ages.

Monster Family Fun Day

It’s back! Join us in St. Conleth’s GAA car park for a jampacked day of games, stalls, fun fair festivities & more. Led by local volunteer groups & charities, this is your chance to give back while having a blast!

We will also be joined by CelticCon Comic Convention who will be running events in Newbridge Town Hall. Come check out the comic village, artist alley, geek market, cosplayers & so much more!

Bark in The Park (KWWSPCA)

KWWSPCA will hold a ‘Bark in the Park’ with lots of fun filled activities, sponsored walk and great entertainment for dogs and their families in the Liffey Linear Park.

This is going to be a brilliant event for dog owners, dog lovers and for anyone looking for a fun day out. We will be holding all sorts of activities throughout the day with competitions, simple dog trials, raffles and general fun for all the dogs.

The Linear Park is a perfect place to bring your picnic and enjoy the festivities in the summer sunshine.

The Irish Military Seminar returns with an exciting full programme of lectures this year in venues across the county, including Castletown House, Celbridge, Naas and Newbridge Libraries and Newbridge Town Hall, featuring renowned historians and authors, including Stella Tillyard (Aristocrats and Citizen Lord) and Professor Diarmaid Ferriter, our keynote speaker who will give a talk based on his most recent book, Between Two Hells: The Irish Civil War.

In 1941 Mickser Mahon and his boyhood friend, Jackie Sheridan, left Naas and joined the British Army in Belfast. Months later they found themselves in North Africa at the decisive Battle of El Alamein. Next up was the campaign in Italy and the horrendous Battle of Monte Cassino. When Germany finally surrendered Mickser was detailed to forcibly send back ethnic Russians who had fought for the Wehrmacht.

The historical site at Russborough Country House is a wonderful location to experience a taste of Irish life and heritage. Overlooking some of the most stunning views in Ireland, our hard working sheepdogs will leave you feeling enchanted. There is a variety of fun for friends and family! See if you can whistle and command the dogs or simply sit back, relax and enjoy as Michael and his sheepdogs do their work with the sheep.
